This is intended as a handy checklist of the all the things you’d usually need for face painting at a function or fund-raiser.
Paints
Glitters
Brushes
Sponges
Something to put your brushes on or in:
Some painters like to lay their brushes flat on a small cloth, others prefer to use something like a Brush Wallet or Brush Well to store their brushes upright on the table to make them harder to lose.
Minimum of two water containers – for rinsing and wetting brushes
Water spray bottle – for wetting sponges and paint. Also handy for wetting boys’ hair to get it out of the way!
Container for rubbish (dirty wipes & tissues)
Container for dirty sponges
Table and chairs (see the “Positioning” section of my Health & Safety Tips for suggestions regarding chairs)
Mirror
Tissues
Wet wipes (good quality, fragrance free)
Bobby pins – for pinning girls’ hair back. Leave them in when the painting is finished so the hair stays off the painting.
Display board or book or Menu – pictures or written list of designs for the kids to choose from
Tablecloth – protects the table from stains & looks nice
Disposable Lip Swabs – for when you need a disposable paint or glitter applicator
Old towel – handy for wiping your hands on, wiping up spills, blotting your sponge if it’s too wet, and all kinds of things.
Something to carry it all. Try a toolbox on wheels or a craft trolley-bag. Wheels are good but it also needs to be light enough to carry upstairs, and big enough to fit not just what you have now, but all the equipment you will accumulate over the years, but small enough to fit in your car.
